The Basics of the CapeLinks Cape Cod Search

Choosing Keywords

For best results, it's important to choose your keywords wisely. Keep these tips in mind:

• Try the obvious first. If you're looking for an Inn, enter "Inn" rather than "lodging".
  
  
• Use words likely to appear on a website with the information you want. "luxury hotel Martha's Vineyard" gets better results than "really nice places to spend the night in Martha's Vineyard".
  
  
• Also note accents make a difference. "Martha's Vineyard" serves much different results than "Marthas Vineyard"
  
  
• Make keywords as specific as possible. "striped bass fly fishing" gets more relevant results than "fishing charter".



• For best results use the singular version of a keyword.
  Example: A search for the keyword "hotel" will return results for "hotels" and "hotel". While the plural form will only return results for "hotels". Use "inn" instead of "inns" - "charter" instead of "charters" etc... Keep in mind you are searching individual websites and they will most likely include the singular form of the keyword.

Automatic "and" Queries

By default, CapeLinks only returns pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include "and" between terms. Keep in mind that the order in which the terms are typed will affect the search results. To restrict a search further, just include more terms.

Searching for Phrases

You can link words and numbers together into phrases if you want specific words or numbers to appear together in your result pages. If you want to find an exact phrase, use "double quotation marks" around the phrase when you enter words in the search box.

Example #1: To find lyrics by Elvis, type "you ain't nothing but a hound dog" in the search box. You can also create phrases using punctuation or special characters such as dashes, underscore lines, commas, slashes, or dots.

Example #2: Try searching for 1-800-999-9999 instead of 1 800 999 9999. The dashes link the numbers together as a phrase.

Automatic Exclusion of Common Words

CapeLinks ignores common words and characters such as "where" and "how", as well as certain single digits and single letters, because they tend to slow down your search without improving the results. CapeLinks will indicate if a common word has been excluded by displaying details on the results page. Since this is a Cape Cod search engine the words "cape", "cod", and "capecod" are also ignored words.

Capitalization

CapeLinks searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for "hyannis hotel", "Hyannis Hotel", and "hYaNnIs HoTeL" will all return the same results.

Expand your search using wildcards (*):

By typing an * at the end of a keyword, you can search for the word with multiple endings.
Example: Try wish*, to find wish, wishes, wishful, wishbone, and wishy-washy.

Check Your Spelling

If you are having trouble - getting no search matches at all, check your spelling. The CapeLinks Cape Cod Search only returns web pages that contain all the words in your query so one misspelled word in a search query can cause "no results found".
